Treating Malnutrition through local products in Partnership with LUTAM FARMS

The aim is to find a sustainable solution through the use of tailor-made plans aimed at creating healthy habits.

The CEO of FAROF- (Amb. Eunice A. Aimofunmeh) and CEO of LUTAM farms (Mrs. Uchechukwu Okoli) has agreed to strengthen partnership in reducing the rate of malnutrition in Nigeria through the introduction of the super cereal meal called the Wonder Food Cereal, a composition of locally available food, such as vitamin A maize, orange flesh sweet potatoes, soya and groundnut.

 

Key findings:

Evidence has shown that the wonder food produced by Lutam farm works 100%, particularly in treating moderate acute malnutrition. 34 children were treated in Nasarawa PHC and Rafingusa PHC of Kaduna state, Nigeria using the Wonder food Cereal, total recovery was achieved within 8weeks for moderate acute malnourished under-five child (<10.5) using MUAC tape. recovery achieved in 8weeks at (12cm).

 

Recommendation:

Indigenous food for treating malnutrition should be encourage, adopting the use of meals like the Wonder Food Cereal to prevent and treat malnutrition in children, pregnant and breast-feeding mothers, while it should be adopted by the Nigeria state governments, NGOs running nutrition programs and other individuals who wishes to have a healthy meal..
