What We Do

Our Child protection Activities includes:

    We ensure that children are engaged as leaders for child protection work and other child-led activities that educate children on how to protect themselves, and empower them to call for action in their communities.

    Creating Child Friendly Spaces in schools and Health centers,such as child clubs, etc.

    Stand against abused children either through domestic violence or sexual violence.

    Developing public awareness campaigns against child exploitation

    Conducting training programs for social workers to provide supportive care to families and children.

    Advocating for more effective national protection policies and child welfare reform.

A family is the first line of protection for children. Parents or other caregivers are responsible for building a protective and loving home environment. Schools and communities are responsible for building a safe and child-friendly environment outside the child’s home. In the family, school and community, children should be fully protected so they can survive, grow, learn and develop to their fullest potential.
Millions of children are not fully protected. Many of them deal with violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation, exclusion and/or discrimination every day. Such violations limit their chances of surviving, growing, developing and pursuing their dreams.
Any child can be vulnerable to violations in many places, including the home. The actual number of children experiencing violations is not easy to determine. This type of data is hard to collect and is not updated frequently.

FAROF reached 2678 children exposed to life challenges, abuse, exploit or neglected through our child protection programs, which are social and life building skills, access to education and health service Delivery. We will and shall protect all children within our reach.

Children depend on many adults as they grow up. Parents, relatives, teachers and child care workers all provide children with love, support and guidance.
No one wants to see children grow up with fear, anger or neglect. But no one is born knowing how to care for children. Sometimes we make mistakes that hurt them.
Whether you are a parent, a teacher, a relative or a caregiver, you can make a difference and help the children you love grow up in a caring, loving environment. Adults don’t have to be perfect, just willing to listen, learn, grow and change.

IMPACT OF Child Protection programmes

Some of the key achievements recorded on the project in 2017 include:

  • Strengthened the technical capacity of 30 Community project volunteers CPV to identify, locate, and protect OVCs and provide both immediate and short-term socio-economic assistance to vulnerable children and households. This was achieved through training and retraining, mentorship and supportive supervision
  • Provide comprehensive and quality services to Orphans and Vulnerable Children within their communities
  • Increased access of OVC to comprehensive services including education, vocational training, health, psychosocial, nutrition and protection services
  • Strengthened the capacity of 5 communities to provide direct protection services and mobilized resources for vulnerable children domicile in their respective communities. This was achieved through the establishment and inauguration of the Children Protection Committees and the training of the committee members on their roles.
  • Increased access to quality education in 13 schools across the 5  project Communities through the provision of educational support materials to schools to address specific needs in the schools
  • Improved the saving culture and livelihood support of over 200 caregivers through the establishment of Village Saving and Loan association for caregivers.

World Statistics:

  • about 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18 experienced forced sexual intercourse and other forms of sexual violence and exploitation during 2002
  • 150 million children aged 5–14 are engaged in child labour
  • millions of children, mostly girls, work as domestic labourers (maids) in private homes
  • approximately 1.2 million children are trafficked annually (most recent annual estimate from 2000)
  • the births of around 51 million children born in 2007 were not registered
  • between 22 per cent and 84 per cent of children 2–14 years old experienced physical punishment in the home in 37 countries surveyed between 2005 and 2007.
