IMPACT STORIES ON MALNUTRITION PARTNERSHIP WITH TYDF AND LUTAM FARMS
FAROF’s Nutrition Success stories by Beneficiaries
Through the continuous support from the TY Danjuma Foundation (TYDF) and Lutam Farms whose product (Wonder Food Cereal-an indigenous nutritious meal made from bio-fortified crops) has been able to address diverse cases of Malnutrition in under five year old children in Kaduna state. While some children *above 10cm (MUAC measurement) were administered wonder food alone, with a full recovery at 7-8 weeks. other children between with 9cm-10.5cm(MUAC Measurement) were administered a combination of the Wonder food cereal and Micro nutrient powder, with evidence of full recovery at 4weeks.
Here are some Impact stories of Beneficiaries in some of our communities, Nigeria under the FAROF Nutrition project, where malnourished under five children were administered the Wonder food as a supplementary meal for the treatment of malnutrition (from 10cm measurement with MUAC tape)
SUCCESS STORY BY REJOICE
Rejoice Simon brought her daughter Mercy Simon to PHC Rafinguza because she was very sickly, she was not eating and she was always crying. At 13 months, she was not walking because she was weak. She was placed on treatment using the wonder food and the micronutrient powder, from 2 weeks of treatment the improvement in Mercy was seen by her mother. Mercy can now walk and she no longer cry as she used to. Rejoice is grateful to TY Danjuma and FAROF for the wonder food and micronutrient that was given to her daughter.

ABDULMALIK’s success story
Abdulmalik Jamilu came to PHC Rafinguza with his mother Wasila, he was very sickly and they tried several medications and there was no improvement, then he was brought to PHC Rafinguza and screened for malnutrition. He was placed on treatment using the wonder food and micronutrient powder and in 4 weeks he was discharged and transitioned. Wasila is grateful to TY Danjuma Foundation and FAROF for this intervention.

MUSA SALISU’s success story
Musa Salisu was very sick and weak, he had no appetite, and his mother Hafsat Salisu brought him to PHC Rafinguza for treatment. Musa was 10 months old when he came to the facility, he measured 9cm on the MUAC. He was placed on treatment using the wonder food and micronutrient powder, with full recovery in 4-5weeks. Musa’s mother is grateful to FAROF & TY Danjuma Foundation
UMAR ILIYASU-1 year and 2weeks old.
This is Jamila Jibrin and her son’s name is Umar Iliyasu. Before she started giving her son the wonder food, her son was very weak and could not crawl or sit on his own. They were referred to the general hospital for blood transfusion but they could not go because they could not afford the treatment. they were later advised to come to PHC Rafinguza because the boy was malnourished as he was born preterm at 7 months. Umar’s father even divorced Jamila as a result of Umar’s health condition. When Umar who was 10months old as at when he started receiving the wonder food given by FAROF Team for a period of 8weeks. As at 1year 2weeks, Umar can now crawl and can even stand on his own with some support. His appetite has improved and he is now an active and happy boy.

AMINA AMINU-1 year 3 months old
This is zuwailat Yushau and this is her daughter Amina aminu after recovery, she is 1 year 3 months old. When Amina was brought to PHC Rafinguza, she was very weak, she doesn’t sit on her own, crawl or even walk, her body weight was very low she had no appetite for food and she was always crying. When she started receiving the wonder food, she starting improving gradually, at 7weeks she recovered fully, her appetite and her body weight improved, and now Amina can walk. AISHATU BELLO- 2years old
This is Barahatu Saad and this is her daughter Aishatu Bello after recovery. Aisha was always sick, she was not eating and her weight was very low, she came to PHC Rafinguza and she was placed on treatment using the wonder food, her daughter was well taken care of while she was receiving treatment at the facility. Barahatu does not wish for her daughter to relapse so she will ensure that she adheres to the training she received on how to prepare nutritious meals and also maintain proper hygiene in the preparation of her daughter’s meals.

HAJARA AHMED-11 months old,
This is Hauwa Ahmed and her daughter Hajara Ahmed after recovery, she is 11 months old, Hajara’ s weight was very low and she had no appetite for food when she was brought to PHC Rafinguza. After the treatment Hajara received using the wonder food and micronutrient powder, Hajara regained her appetite and she is now a heathy baby with MUAC measurement of 12cm.

UMULKHAIRI MANSUR-16 months old
This is Mariya Mansur and her daughter Umulkhairi Mansur after recovery, she is 16 months old, Umulkhairi was very weak and she was not eating anything at all, she was 1 year old when she came to the facility and she could not walk, crawl or stand on her own but after she started taking the wonder food and the micronutrient powder, she regained her appetite and she eats other types of food apart from the wonder food.
